Falling Skies......Rising Show?

So Falling Skies premiered on FX last night. I do not have FX. :( This meant I had to find other *ahem* means of watching the show. To my surprise four episodes were available, which ofcourse I watched. I must say I enjoyed them.

This show has kind of come out of nowhere, unless I've somehow blocked it out, I can't remember hearing much about it on TV or seeing any billboards about it, which is a shame because it has the potential to be a good series.

As with most films and series of 2011 containing some sort of aliens, Steven Speilberg has been involved in this series as an executive producer (whatever that means, as he has executive produced so much this year already!). We also find the familiar ER face of Noah Wyle, aka Dr. John Carter, who plays the lead protagonist, Tom (cool name!) Mason. I also have to mention Moon Bloodgood, purely because I can't believe this is actually her name unless her parents are die hard Lord of the Rings fans and just went onto a name generator and named their child what ever came up.

I won't give too much a way, as I hate it when I read something and it has just told me everything that has happened, but basically Earth had been invaded by some aliens and now we are watching a resistance of people surviving and battling against the invaders.

The one thing I always question when I start to watch a new show is what it reminds me of, if anything, and whether it has managed to stay original. I'm still unsure about this as it reminds me a lot of War of the Worlds (no surprise as it was directed by Steven Speilberg), The Walking Dead and parts of Battlestar Gallactica. At different moments in the series, I think I'm watching some kind of spin off to each of the above I just mentioned. But I have still watched the first 4 episodes, so surely something about it must be good? But now I'm wondering if it is just because the first season of The Walking Dead is over, and I'll have to wait a while for season 2, and obviously Battlestar Gallactica is over, and every fan wants a bit more of that in their lives (apart from maybe Caprica, I'm sure you would agree!). So maybe I only like this show because it reminds me of some great shows?

If you have seen the first episode or like me watched a few of the others, please leave a comment on your thoughts on the show! Would be great to see what other people think! If you haven't seen it yet, please do so you can come back here and discuss it.

Happy Viewing!

Tom de Paull :)
